Fashion & Style News: Mob Mania for Choos at H&M

November 17, 2009
H&M Paris

In Milan, Italy more than a thousand people stood in line (enduring the rain) at H&M to get their hands on the new Jimmy Choo for H&M collection. In Tokyo, more than 800 people stood outside a H&M store for 24-hours, and about 500 people lined up in New York on West 51st Street as early as 8PM on Friday to get their pick of the litter.

Inside the Paris store.

While I am a self-professed shop-a-holic, I have yet to stand in line to grab a garment or accessory. I trekked through the Beverly Center in Los Angeles yesterday and visited H&M,to find a peaceful setting, shoppers going about their daily business and a few Choos still on the shelves.

Apparently the Los Angeles fashionistas hit the Beverly Center store while I was cruising through my other favorite store (Loehmann’s) this past weekend. More than 600 people stood in line to get a hold of the shoes in those bright blue Jimmy Choo boxes that were piled neatly on shelves. Few were left after the massive crowds hit and other area stores experienced the same thing.

A wristband for access.

In Manhattan, five stores carried the Jimmy Choo collection. The expensive items were the first to go, including the above-the-knee leather boots that retail $299 and a leather and a suede one-shoulder dress that sells for $249, which has been deemed company-wide as a best-seller. I’m sure the ad campaign contributed to that. I have yet to get my first pair of Choos, but as always, I’ll keep you posted.

Parties & Events: Roger Vivier Event at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills

October 31, 2009
Me with Roger Vivier Creative Director Roopal Patel and Neiman Marcus’ Bruno Frisoni.

Friday I had the pleasure to attend the Roger Vivier Event at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills. Fans of the brand, fashion who’s who and lookers on turned out for the fabulous event, which included a preview, a lunch, and of course shopping. The event included a meet and greet with Roger Vivier Creative director Roopal Patel and Neiman MarcusWomen’s Fashion Accessory Senior market Editor, Bruno Frisoni.Actress Tichina Arnold even dropped by.

Credited with creating the first stiletto in 1954, Roger Vivier was widely criticized and admired for his elaborate shoe designs. He used silks, appliqué, pearls, beads, lace, and jewels. his designs were often considered sculptures with their extraordinary design and adornments. The brand also produces haute couture footwear as well.

What’s exciting about Roger Vivier collections is that you never know what to expect. Creativity is abundant behind the scenes and each design is truly unique. The fall collection is bursting with color and enchanting embellishments. Brand lovers can expect more of the same for spring. Many thanks to Meghan Mino and the Neiman Marcus staff for helping me give CFB readers the inside scoop!

Fashion & Style News: Moschino’s Cheap & Chic Accessories Collection

October 23, 2009

Moschino, the luxury Italian fashion house is debuting a contemporary priced accessories line in Spring 2010 under their Love Moschino label. Alongside designer names such as Betsy Johnson and Jimmy Choo, the lower priced accessory line is for consumers who want luxury accessories without the luxury price tag.
Since its inception in 1983, Moschino has come to be known for its eccentric, colorful designs that reflect a satirical criticism of the fashion industry. While some high-end designers continue to design clothes for their upper class clientele, Moschino views the debut of their lower-priced accessory line as an opportunity to allow frugal fashionistas to own one of their handbags at a more affordable price.

After the successful debut of the Love Moschino ready to wear line in 2008, it has been a goal of Michelle Stein, the president of business group Aeffe USA whom represents Moschino, to offer more affordable goods for their contemporary customers whom comprise 20 percent of the Moschino business in the United States.

When the accessory line debuts in the spring, the collection will feature totes, shoulder bags, wallets, and clutches made out of canvas and leather materials such as calf, nappa and patent leather. The design concept for the collection will stay true to the unconventional Moschino design concept. Fashion enthusiasts describe the line as “whimsical and elegant” with hardware finishes in bright gold and silver that will capture the essence of Moschino. Sure to be a hit with Moschino customers, the collection will retail from $165 to $445.
