Designer Collections: Old Navy’s New Look for Fall 2010

April 26, 2010

Old Navy is attempting has created a fall collection worthy of mentioning. I have to say the last couple of years of their fall fashion has kinda sucked a bit. This new collection looks promising though. The pants appear to be more tailored, the blouses get more fluff and the sweaters have more variety.

I don’t normally wear ponchos but the one pictured above  is pretty cool, but I would add a belt. The fur vests are great paired with jeans and the tiered skirts are ladylike and trendy.

Bottom line: Looks like Old Navy is making a comeback.

Fashion & Style News: Rock & Republic Files Bankruptcy

April 3, 2010

Premium denim line Rock & Republic has filed for bankruptcy. The worldwide brand will continue to operate while it goes through Chapter 11 and reorganizes.

The upscale brand is said to have filed bankruptcy to take the pressure off their finances. In other words, they are overextended. Rock & Republic although extremely popular is undoubtedly overpriced in my opinion. High price tags for denim have always puzzled me. I mean seriously, it’s denim.

While I do like Rock & Republic’s jeans, I think they should reevaluate their pricing strategies as well. It won’t take away from the allure of the brand, it might just reinvent it. We shall see.

Trend Tuesday: Get Shorty

December 1, 2009
Above: Level 99 denim short.

Who wears short shorts? We do! And for spring they’ll be seen. Designers are cranking out their own sassy versions of the classic denim short, some long, some not, but almost always hot! With these Daisy Duke inspired bottoms, Beyonce would be proud.

Cookie Johnson Wants You in Her Jeans

August 13, 2009

Cookie Johnson, better known as Mrs. Magic has created her very own denim collection, Cj by Cookie Johnson. The jeans are made for curvier women who have waists from 24 to 38 inches. Johnson herself had trouble herself finding jeans, often having to buy a 31-inch waist pair of jeans to fit her size 29-inch waist due to her curvier shape. The designer says she had a hard time finding jeans to fit her because she had “butt and thighs”, so she decided to do something about. She joined forces with 7 for All Mankind co-founder Michael Glasser, filling a void in the fashion industry. Women with fuller bodies who desire to wear premium denim jeans will appreciate her efforts.

Cj by Cookie Johnson goes all the way up to an 18 and are made from Japanese and Italian denim. The collection include bootcut, boyfriend, and a snug-leg fit jean. The line is sold exclusively in Nordstrom stores for $145-198 a pair.

Johnson predicts the line will do well because it is meeting a demand that has been ignored for some time. You can also find Cj by Cookie Johnson on racks in Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s this fall.
