Chocolate News: Essence Atkins Finds Her ‘Match’ Online

September 30, 2009

Actress Essence Atkins (Half & Half, Delivers Us From Eva) tied the knot in Pasadena, California on September 26th.

She met her new husband, Jaime Mendez on the site The two “connected” on Valentine’s Day of 2008 and have been inseparable ever since. Their simple but elegant ceremony was held at the Ambassador Mansion & Gardens in Pasadena. They opted not to have attendants, creating a special day just for them.

The bride wore a gown by Steven Yearick and shoes by Jimmy Choo. She carried a bouquet of ivory, green, and violet roses. Essence and Jaime opted for Puerto Rican and Soul Food dishes and red velvet cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake.

Essence surprised her new hubby with a Salsa band and a DJ spun tunes for the celebration.

Guests included the actress’ buddies Sanaa Lathan and Gabrielle Union and NBA star Dwayne Wade. Congratulations Essence!

As the wedding season continues well into October and beyond, brides are in search of the perfect dress for the big day. Fashion houses who design for the bride with a budget in mind, are enabling the i-doers to spend more money on things other than attire. Lines like J. Crew and David’s Bridal can help brides save money. For the brides without spending limitations, they can have a greater selection of designers. Wedding gowns from Amsale, Romona Keveza, Vera Wang, Jim Hjelm, Monique Lhuillier, and others provide elegant looks for brides who want to really make a statement.

The key to selecting the perfect bridal gown is to consider three things: budget, body shape, and theme. You want your gown to blend well with the overall aura of the wedding. In other words, you don’t want to show up to a beach wedding in a huge princess dress dragging through the sand! And let’s not forget the bridesmaids. You want them to look good, but not take over! Select gowns that complement their shapes and budgets as well.

Lastly the perfect shoe is key to completing the overall look. And whether you’re a stiletto diva or flip-flop mama, choose a shoe that fits and goes well with your gown.
